Primary Purpose of Fatherhood and Family
The bible story of beginnings reminds us of how God saw it unwise for the man Adam to live alone and hence made for him Eve as a suitable partner in marriage (Gen 2:18).
Through companionship in marriage, Adam and Eve were “to become fruitful and increase in number” to subdue and rule the earth (Gen 1:28). Consequent to marriage, children are given as a gift to be raised in a family setting (Gen 18:18-19; Mal 2:14-15) to model the fear of God.
Fathers have the principal role of raising families where the image of God is reproduced in the family members (Eph 5:24-25). This then constitute the primary purpose of the members of the Fathers Union – to head and raise families in a marriage relationship that bear the image of God.
